Picked up this book today.....

It's a pretty rad book. It covers everything from the original fixed gear bicycles in the early 1900s to the neon hipster whips of today. Lots of cool photos, lots of beautiful bikes.

I got it at Hennessy and Ingals for like $25, but apparently you can get it at Amazon.com for like $17.

It's a great coffee table book. Check it out.

Thursday's Picture of the Day

A few weeks ago I was at the BFF bbq and this adorable little kid sat down next to me with his parents. He kept turning to his dad and asking all kinds of questions, like why are the rims different colors. I couldn't help but smile. This little boy ended up talking to me for a good twenty minutes telling me about his bike and how he only rides it with training wheels but he hoped he could take them off soon, so this picture is for that kid.

Portland Has the Right Idea

This is perhaps the most amazing in practice idea we've seen. With the growing popularity in bicycle commuting Portland has a program to help low-income adults get bicycles to be able to commute to work. It is called "Create-a-Commuter" and gives these adults a commuter bike, equipped with a lock, pump, helmet, lights, tool kit, rain gear, and maps so that they too can get around on bikes (and with gas prices on the rise again, this is brilliant). With the program alos comes a session on commuter safety. Portland has 48,150 riders a day on it's bike route daily. More cities in the U.S.A. need to follow suit and not only help those in need, but help the congestion of traffic, and save the environment for generations to come.
